Becoming Under Tension Opening Reception

Becoming Under Tension | Senior BFA Exhibition
April 27 – 30 | Gallery 100

Opening reception | April 28 | 5 – 7 p.m.

Gallery 100 is pleased to present “Becoming Under Tension,” an exhibition featuring Abby Prefontaine, Claire Gail, Faith Chiaravalloti, Gang Huyan, Grace Kimble, Jonah Castellanos, Kim Pham, Minz Weibezahl, Rebekah Bennett and Trinity Hydeman. Situated between who we have been and who we are not yet, “Becoming Under Tension” explores transformation, vulnerability and the quiet acts of change. The works in the exhibition frame identity as an evolving construct that is shaped by memory and desire, and not a final state to be reached. Becoming is framed here as a multi-layered, frequently contradictory experience: a negotiation between past and future selves rather than a linear process. These works allow for change and represent the brittle and incomplete moments that make us who we are. Instead of drawing conclusions, the exhibition acknowledges becoming as an act of presence, preservation, and possibility while lingering in the in-between. It is a reminder that we are constantly, in some quiet way, in motion.
