Ellen in Her Absense: Works in Gratitude and Response
Jan 27 to Feb 12, 2026 | Gallery 100

Opening reception | Jan 27 | 5 to 7 p.m.

"Ellen in Her Absence: Works in Gratitude and Response" is a memorial exhibition honoring the life, teaching, and enduring influence of Ellen Meissinger. It brings together work by current and former students, colleagues, and friends. The exhibition reflects the many ways Ellen fostered artistic growth, guidance, generosity, critical thinking, and a sense of shared responsibility within a creative community.

The works presented here do not attempt to summarize a single legacy, but instead offer a constellation of responses. Some are direct acknowledgements of mentorship and care; others reveal her influence more subtly, embedded in ways of working, questioning, and attending to the world. Together, they form a collective expression of gratitude, an offering made in the space between memory and continuation.

This exhibition stands as both remembrance and response: an acknowledgment of a life devoted to teaching, curiosity, and care, and a testament to how one person’s influence can ripple outward through many hands, practices, and futures, long after her presence is no longer physically felt.
