Philosophical Beauty – Art by Ziyun Xun and Tian Shuxing

Ziyun Xun and Tian Shuxing allude to Daoism and I Ching through different visual languages in the exhibit Philosophical Beauty.

Ziyun Xun’s work is inspired by Chinese philosophy and the 1960s Op art movement. Ziyun’s work strikes the viewer with splendid optical phenomena, often morphing in shape and color when viewed in motion. The slow unfolding of each piece encourages viewers to attune to timing, subtlety, and stillness She developed her techniques during her master’s studies at ASU. Ziyun recently debuted at Bentley Gallery. She grew up in Yantai, Shandong, and lived in Beijing, China.

Tian Shuxing’s series of oil paintings captures the vibrant energy and tranquility of nature through stunning, often colorful, depictions of bamboo. He uses bamboo as a metaphor for resilience, integrity, and quiet endurance. “[Bamboo] carries water and breath, embodying life itself.” Tian studied oil painting at Shandong University of Arts. He currently lives and works in Beijing, China, and his work has been displayed at museums and galleries throughout China.
